Pancake Day!

IMG_6438
Most of us Decatur folks are very familiar with Pancake Day here in town. For those of you not from here though, every year we have the Kiwanis Pancake Day that is on a Saturday in February and goes from like 5:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. Every year this is a huge hit in town and thousands of people flock through the doors of Decatur High School. I love pancake day for many reasons...mostly, because I like pancakes, but secondly, you always see lots of people that you know there and its fun to go back to old Decatur High School. This year was a little different for me though. I got up and went to the gym before going to pancake day. I ran/sprinted my 30 minutes on the treadmill, then lifted weights. It occured to me though as I was driving home that even though I was drenched in sweat and felt like I had been beat up, the amount of calories I had burned in the gym probably only equaled 1/2 of a pancake and no syrup. Its kind of disappointing when you go to the gym and you work really hard, but you only burn like 400-500 calories....how much is that really? Like one Oreo? Sometimes it doesn't seem like it is worth it, but you trudge on anyway! Oh well, I digress...pancake day again this year was great and I am looking forward to next year already!

How many people can a pizza feed?

So tonight, David and I did what most exciting married couples do on Friday night date night...we went grocery shopping. Yes I know...don't be jealous! We are so busy during the week and we had tonight free, so too bad it was filled with errands. Anyway, we decided to try one of those Papa Murphy's Pizzas because we have never had one. So, we got the like supreme meat stuffed crust...(the sound your hearing is my heart going into cardiac arrest after eating that.) Anyway, we brought the pizza home, cooked it and dug in. What is hilarious to me about this pizza is that you can only eat one piece. We have so much of it left that it is ridiculous! And don't think we eat like a bird at the Higginbotham house...David and I have been known to mangle an entire pizza and then be looking for a snack! So seriously, I think this one pizza could have fed 8-10 adults. ONE PIZZA!!!! So, needless to say, we would like to open up our home to everyone we know...we will order 2 pizza's and be on our way! Seriously though give them a try. Its good stuff!

New York...part 4-the finale...

As a born and raised Southerner....I have always hated being stereotyped as redneck, or backwards or any one of the other typical Southern stereotypes that comes along. I however, forgot all of that and grouped all New Yorkers into the "rude, unfriendly" category while we were there. Now, I know, not all of them are like that, and actually a few people we met on the street were surprisingly nice....(One of them had just bought his wife a business in Alabama, so they had to be good people.) I did seem to notice though that no one seems really happy up there...it could have been the freezing cold temperatures or the fact they have to walk 9 million miles everyday...I don't know which. But overall, we had a great time and it would be nice to go back again...just when it is warmer!

Another one of my issues, is my inability to get through most days without a nap of some sort. This was apparent in New York as well. Thank goodness for my lovely husband who captured these little jewels so we can remember my napping....whether it was on the tour bus or not. :)

I did find that having one of these scarves on, helps hold your neck up for the perfect sleeping angle. :)

New York....part 3

So while we were in New York, we went to see Wicked which I highly recommend. It is awesome! David even liked it and he hates musicals! So, go see it if you get the chance. I hear it is coming to Birmingham in April so be on the lookout for tickets. Here are a few more shots from the trip!

New York...Part 2-Do I look like I am on steroids??

IMG_6434.JPG

Here is your story for the day from New York. I was deathly ill for like a week before we left, and then had my infection move into my ear which left me unable to hear for many days. I went to the doctor and he put me on all these steroids to help my ear infection. The picture above was taken at Brother Jimmy's in New York which is a Southern style BBQ place which was AWESOME!! It reminded me so much of Tuscaloosa, and I loved it! Anyways, I digress...so I am taking these steroids which have made my fuse a little too short. I know that usually happens, but I was on extreme edge and had zero patience while taking them. So what transpired next normally would not have happened. I have never been a jealous person at all. I think when some girl is flirting with my husband that that is a compliment to me and I trust David fully, so I have no reason to get upset. Never have....well, not this night. Our waitress at Brother Jimmys was beautiful...I mean really pretty!! And normally, I would remember that she is working for tips and its not a big deal....well, long story short, she kept flirting with David and touching him, which I tell you, wouldn't normally even go on my radar....well not that night. With my "Roid Rage" I thought I was going to get up and punch her. I literally had to calm myself down...but man, she had it coming. Oh well, I guess its good to know that deep down somewhere I have a little bit of crazy still left in me! :) More New York post to come!

New York....NEW YORK!!

So, as my previous short post mentioned, David and I went to New York last week and had a blast. There is so much to tell and show, that this will probably be several post. We got there Thursday at lunch, checked into our hotel and then went out to see the sights. It was awesome! Cold...but awesome! Here are a few shots from our first day...

This is David with a coffee mug from his favorite show..."THE OFFICE." They had so much cool stuff we could have spent a fortune in there...luckily, we walked away with 2 t-shirts only. :)
