Birthday Party Pictures....

No, we didn't make David play the WHOLE time at his party, but he got up there with the Flashbacks for old times sake and was wonderful as usual!!

Another shot of the band at the party....it was sooo much fun!
A special thanks to our friends who drove such a long way to be with us....Bret Bret and Lawren from Mobile, Caroline from Atlanta, Kelli and Judy from Birmingham. And a special thanks to our wonderful neighbors Scott and Shawna for all of their help with everything!

This was during "wipeout" where Russ comes around in the audience and plays the drums on things like tables, glasses, your head, etc...

Our birthday boy himself singing....

Blowing out the candles on one of his 3 cakes....thanks again to Jackie and the staff at the Casual Gourmet, everything was delicious!!

Our cousin Buzzy giving a little speech about the birthday boy and my mother next to him.

Crowd shot....again a special thanks to J-Mo for the wonderful pictures....he's my second favorite photographer!!! :)

This was right after we walked in when the lights were flipped on and David realized we were not at the Song Writers Showcase....

This is my favorite picture...he had NO IDEA what was going on. To see David speechless is rare!!

Happy Birthday David!!!

So after months of planning, sneaking around and down right lying, I finally pulled off the greatest 30th Surprise Party ever!! David had no idea what was going on which was wonderful. So for months, he thought he was going to the Song Writers Showcase which is an event we have for the hospital foundation. I left the fake invitation laying around where David could see it and even made up drama about the event, mismatched tablecloths, etc. So, when we walked into the place Saturday night and 100 of our closest friends and family were there, he was truly in shock. We had a great night, with a slideshow of David's life, http://www.jonathanpalmer.net/higg/ wonderful dinner by The Casual Gourmet and entertainment by The Flashbacks. I will post more pictures as soon as I get them from the great photographer...Jonathan Moral. :) Custom invitations were made by Jonathan Palmer...Thank you to everyone who helped make the party a success!! (Ya'll can help David plan my 30th...even though I have a LOOOONNNG time before then!!!)

What is the world coming to??

So, lately, our fine city and many surrounding it has been hit by a crime spree of people kicking in doors and robbing you. This actually happened on our street, our quiet little street in the middle of the day with people out in the yard watching. It is so frustrating to me that no one, or their property is safe anymore. The police officers told us this was happening in all the neighborhoods in Decatur, that no one was safe. It is sad that you have to be paranoid to come home for lunch and wonder if someone is going to kick your door in while you are there. So, the recommendation from the police officers was to arm yourself and shoot anyone that comes through your front door. So, this is what you will see if you kick down the front door at the Higginbotham house...minus the smile of course...

So a disclaimer to all of our friends...it might be wise to call first before coming over...I get a little trigger happy. :)

Support our Troops!!

I usually do not get caught up in political arguments or anything of the sort, but I thought this video deserved to be posted on my blog. I know that everyone has their own opinion of the war in Iraq and the upcoming election, and that is great. That is actually what makes our country so great is that we are allowed to think for ourselves. So whether you agree with the war, support McCain or Obama, we are all Americans and we should be proud of the service and sacrifice that our men and women in uniform have made for us. Some may not agree with the war and that is okay....but no matter what, these people fight for our freedom and they deserve a great deal of respect and gratitude. I appreciate them all, and their families for allowing us to continue on with our daily lives while they live in turmoil. The turmoil of a mother wondering if her son is coming home, a pregnant wife wondering if the father of her child is ever going to see his baby, and a solider trying to sleep at night wondering if he will be attacked when he isn't ready. So whatever your political views are, support the great people that give their lives for us each and every day.

Proper Football Etiquette

So as most of you know, David and I are Alabama fans and we have season tickets, so we attend all the home games. During this process, you meet a lot of super nice people, and then you meet some people that you wouldn't want to pet your dog. The guy pictured below would be one of those guys....of course, he is sitting next to me. Now, I know this picture is a little unclear, but we had to take it where he didn't know what we were doing. Let me paint the rest of the picture for you....sleeveless Alabama shirt on, an ACTUAL mohawk haircut, greasy all over...I'm sure you can see him now. So, not only is he gross, but he doesn't understand that the seats are small and you can't wave your arms around and stretch your knees out for your own comfort. As soon as I sit down next to him I realize that he has an OPEN FLESH WOUND on his elbow. Does he care that he is bleeding and rubbing his arm all over me....I don't think so. So I am almost sitting in David's lap at this point, because I am trying not to contract HIV from this guy. Can this situation get any worse.....oh yes, it can. He begins to pick at the remaining scab until it is fully bleeding/oozing out everywhere. He also has a scab on his finger that he is chewing on. Needless to say, I was more concerned for my personal safety/cleanliness than watching the football game.

So what have we all learned in Football Etiquette 101 today??? If you are bleeding, grab a bandaid from the nearest EMT standing at every corner inside the stadium.

Houston....We Have POWER!!!!

As most of you know, David and I bought a piece of property on the river about 2 years ago. My plan was to have this wonderful getaway with a tiny cabin...only the bare essentials of course, so our kids one day would have the great pleasure of growing up on the river. Fishing, boating, catching frogs, etc. So, when this life long dream of mine finally came true I was absolutely ecstatic!! So then I thought, well, we will have a little cabin built up there by last summer and just start enjoying that as soon as possible. WRONG!!!! I don't know if any of you have ever had the joy of trying to build something but it is a nightmare. All I wanted was a basic little cabin, something small, just to be able to get out of the rain....well that didn't happen. 2 LONG years later we just now have POWER run out to our property. I know you are probably thinking, why in the world does it take that long to get a power pole hooked up on your property??? Well thanks to the good people at the Utility
Department we were dealing with, it took that long. (I will say that we dealt with one man there that was SUPER helpful though!!) We rode up last night to check out the lot and I almost fainted when I saw that our power was hooked up. Its a small battle in the great scheme of things, but my goodness, it was a lot of work and headache. So now, 2 years into the project we have:

1. A driveway
2. A power pole
3. A flat lot to put our camper on until we build a cabin

This has taught me that when dealing with new construction, you cannot under any circumstance get in a hurry, otherwise, you will go to prison for threatening the lives of the utility workers you are dealing with. :)

Auburn Fans....Reckless at any age

So I am driving in Cullman today and the strangest thing happens to me. I am going down the road and this car starts honking the horn at me. So I look in my rearview mirror and see this little paw paw driving his car. He looked to be about 85 years old and had no business on the road. So I slow down a little bit and he is starting to pass me, honking his horn and blinking his lights. I think there has to be something wrong with my car....do I have a flat tire, has part of my car blown off...I mean he is definitely trying to get my attention. I then slow down as he is pulling up to me and the holds up 6 fingers and then starts pumping his fist in the air, while he continues to honk the horn. It took me a little bit to realize but as his car passed me, swerving all over the road, he had a big Auburn sticker on the back window (I have a BAMA sticker on my window). So to sum this up, he felt the need to muster up all his old man energy for the day to honk, swerve and flash at me to remind me that they have beat us the past 6 times....seriously, just go on in to the nursing home. :)

Fun on the River!!

I can't think of many other places that I would rather be that out on the river. We are very fortunate to have our own piece of property in Athens on the river that we love and visit regularly. Yesterday, we decided to take the boat out to play on the water in town. I don't know what has changed, but that past two times we have gone out in the boat, we have had problems. (Mainly operator error on my part). So, it took us about an hour to actually get the boat off the trailer and into the water. We took Wilson because he has not been out on the water this year and he loves riding in the boat. All in all, it was a great day and we had a lot of fun!!

IMG_5610.JPG

One of Wilson's favorite past times....going after his ball. He loves being in the water and fetching his ball....

IMG_5606.JPG

Me and Wilson sitting on the bank....he was wondering why his ball was not being thrown for him..,

IMG_5615.JPG

This was my attempt at getting some sun yesterday. However, I have a shadow of a lab on my left leg where he was laying and would not get up. Oh well....the right leg got a little sun. :)

After a long day at the river....this is the final result...
