Crying for the Camry...

Any of you that know us know that we drive crappy cars....well, let me re-phrase that. We drive cars that use to be decent, but with the insane amount of mileage we put on them, as well as all the junk we haul around daily, they sometimes could fall into the crappy category...Anywho, David's camry had 272,000 miles on it. No that is not a typo, that would be 272,000 actual miles. It was at the point where we were going to have to make some big money repairs, so we decided to sell it and get something else. Well, all the stars lined up this week and we got this....

We are always needing a truck, having to borrow one, etc. So, we decided to get the Tundra. It is beautiful...but as I watched the guy drive away in the camry, I had to hold back tears...I don't know why, but I get some emotionally attached to vehicles. (Which is probably why I still own my jeep) I literally was depressed all day yesterday, and am still sad today. Don't get me wrong, the new car is nice, but its not camry. It doesn't quack like a duck when you turn the steering wheel, or have a tail light that is always out, even if you just replaced it. Like, I said, its no camry...I do hope though I can bond with the new vehicle...if not, I will be tracking the guy down and getting the old camry back! :) So, in memory of the camry....here she is, one last time! :(

It's Growing...It's Really Growing!!

So a couple of post ago, I told you all about my gardening experience I was trying out. I ordered those Earth Box things and have been very pleased with them so far. I have planted strawberry's, peppers, broccoli, carrots, and a few heads of lettuce in the boxes. I also have a tomato plant and a few other things of lettuce in other containers. Everything was doing fine until I went to Lubbock and ol' hubby forgot to water my tomato plant. As I pulled into the driveway from the airport I yelled out that my plant was dead and ran to its aid. I watered it, prayed over it and waited for the best. It pepped back up but the jury is still out whether there was any long term damage done or not. Anywho, everything else is growing quite well so far. I felt so farmer-chic the other night as I went out to pick lettuce for my first salad. Talk about fresh...snap it off the plant and put it on the plate. The strange thing was that it tasted REALLY good. I don't know if it was because there were no preservatives on the leaves or chemicals, or if I was just so dang excited that I grew something. I had another salad tonight and it was yummy as well! Anywho, I will keep you posted on my progress....here are some shots of the garden....we moved it to the porch before the great tornado's of 2010. :)

Spring Break Fishing

Last week was Steven's spring break, so I decided to meet up with him and Vick after work for a little fishing. We were out there for about 2 hours before it started getting dark and didn't have a whole lot of luck. However, it was a beautiful day! Well, then our number was up...oh wait, before I tell you that, let me tell you this. I touched a cricket for the first time in my life. I know, I know, you are probably thinking with most of the things I do, why in the world would I have not touched a cricket. Well, they are nasty....there, I said it. And they jump at you/in your face which I am not a fan of either. However, Steven was fishing with them and after making him put one on my hook for the 3rd time, I decided to be a big girl and do it myself. Granted, the cricket was dead...but its baby steps for me. Don't judge! So, back to my story. After being out there for awhile with no luck with my worms, the cricket did the trick. I got a HUGE bite, pulled and pulled and yanked and reeled. I thought I was pulling in a shark! After 2 hours of fighting this enormous fish, I finally got it to the shore with the help of Steven.

This my friends, is a fishing story. :) If you squint hard enough, you can see the fish in the photo. :)

Lubbock-Day 3/Final Day.... :(

The last day of my trip to Lubbock, we headed to Amarillo to Palo Dura Canyon, The Big Texan and Cadillac Ranch....I will try to sum this up quickly...when we went got to Palo Dura Canyon we first stopped at the gift shop...
IMG_1547 (by alhiggy08)
Bought some super tacky magnets and other items that must remain nameless....then we headed off into the park. I have never been to the Grand Canyon, but Lindsey said this was a smaller scale, but you get the picture....we then tried to take several self portraits before a nice family agreed to take our picture...

IMG_1545 (by alhiggy08)

We saw lots of creatures...and even chased a few....

Did I mention how cool this place was....super pretty!!

Next was Cadillac Ranch....I in my mind thought it was some tourist attraction, which it is, but its just in the middle of this field and you just walk up to it. This was also where Lindsey uttered the words..."When did you become such a primadonna???" When she gave me the itinerary for the trip, she told me it was suppose to pour down rain and that we probably wouldn't get to do much of the stuff....so I did not bring proper shoes to go running through a muddy corn field to see the Cadillac's....Me, primadonna??? Have you met Lindsey? :)

Next, was the Big Texan....so many memories were made at this restaurant, I don't even know where to begin...
1. I met my soulmate (and ya'll thought it was David...) :)
2. I could have been arrested for stalking a teenager
Hang with me for the rest....this restaurant is home of the 72 ounce steak, the one where if you eat it all, you get it for free. I looks like a roast you would feed a family of 6
IMG_1593 (by alhiggy08)

Oh, and did I mention the limo's that will come pick you up at your hotel to take you to eat?
IMG_1583 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1584 (by alhiggy08)

Or the giant cow....did I leave that off?
IMG_1582 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1585 (by alhiggy08)

They also have these sweet little old men that come around to your table and play request....
IMG_1591 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1587 (by alhiggy08)

Well I guess that is all....oh wait, I forgot to mention about my soul mate...
IMG_1592 (by alhiggy08)
First of all, let me start out by saying that Blake was our waiter and possibly underage...now, the reason I took this photo was to have proof to show my ever so doubting husband. The events that transpired before this photo taken were something I have never experienced in my life. Now, take a look at Blake, our waiter....cute, but nothing to write home about correct?? Well, Lindsey and I did not pay any attention to him until he opened his mouth. The next thing that happened can only be described, from the mouth of Lindsey, was like hearing liquid chocolate. The voice that came out of this young fella was something I have never heard in my life. Not country, not super deep, but the most amazing speaking voice I have ever heard. When he left our table the first time, Lindsey and I just stared at each other. "I call him!!!" "No, I saw him first!!!" Jokingly of course, we are both taken ladies. When we left, I immediately called David and told him that I had met my soul mate and he was out of luck...he of course said the guy must have been drop dead gorgeous for us to going on and on about him....which was why I took the photo in the first place. Semi cute...sure, but like I said, nothing to write home about. I am thinking about calling the Big Texan and asking to speak to him so David can hear his voice because he just thinks we are nuts.... :)

IMG_1596 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1597 (by alhiggy08)

And honestly, we may be a little nuts.... :)

Lubbock-Day 2

So I left you with a little teaser with the last photo with my new sign. I am so proud of it. We were here when we saw the sign....

IMG_1513 (by alhiggy08)

We went in this store as a joke, and guess who came out with real merchandise that they are really going to wear....not this girl....

IMG_1509 (by alhiggy08)

But boy did I rack up! I was actually checking out when Lindsey said, "Oh my goodness....this sounds like it came out of your mouth!!" And then she held up the sign. I immediately had to buy it of course!! Ya'll know I am a bit of a closet redneck, so I did also purchase a Brooks and Dunn label black cowgirl shirt to wear to the rodeo in May....laugh if you will, but I will be stylin!!

IMG_1510 (by alhiggy08)

There were a LOT of boots....I mean, as far as the eye could see...
IMG_1511 (by alhiggy08)

Then that night we headed out to Mana, the coolest restaurant around! I loved it. I had some sort of bison pasta dish that was to die for!!
IMG_1529 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1530 (by alhiggy08)

The next day, Lindsey took me to Spanky's for lunch, also known as Heart Attack Highway...
IMG_1531 (by alhiggy08)
Guess what these are????
IMG_1532 (by alhiggy08)

The worlds most AMAZING cheese sticks EVER!!!
IMG_1533 (by alhiggy08)

There is much more to come from the Lubbock trip, so stay tuned in... :)

The Phi Mu's Take Texas!

I had lots of options to put for the title of this post, but this one just seemed the most appropriate! On Thursday, I flew out to Lubbock Texas to see one of my best friends in the world....Lindsey. Now, Lindsey has been in school out there since we graduated from Alabama in 2004. I have promised her I was going to visit her, and well, she is graduating in May. Can we say last chance trip?? Anyways, I made it out there, which should count for something. So I arrived in Lubbock...the giant airport that it is and waited for Lindsey to come get me....
IMG_1491 (by alhiggy08)
We goofed around a little, went and drove around Texas Tech and then headed out for dinner. One thing that is so funny to me was Lindsey was talking about how Texas Tech folks think they are "big football fans..." When she took me to the stadium, I thought it was a high school stadium. It only holds like 30,000 people....that wouldn't hold the student section at Bama....I guess we are maybe the tiniest bit of football snobs....anywho..back to dinner...
IMG_1492 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1493 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1495 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1496 (by alhiggy08)

Oh, did I mention that it rained like the entire time I was there...which she said NEVER happens...we had a great time though, rain and all. We headed out the next day for a tour around Lubbock, went on a tour of a winery, went to Prairie Dog Park and to see some giant rabbits around Texas Tech...Oh and then there was the tour of Sorority Row/Fraternity Lane...
IMG_1498 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1502 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1501 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1504 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1507 (by alhiggy08)

So here we are in front of one of the fraternity houses and we spot a turkey...and no, it wasn't a frat guy...
IMG_1517 (by alhiggy08)

Then the frat boys come out to chase the turkey....must have been a slow day in the old fraternity house...
IMG_1519 (by alhiggy08)

Remember the giant rabbits I was talking about....that literally herd across the streets so much so they stop traffic...yeah, I thought these were beavers.
IMG_1521 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1522 (by alhiggy08)

This picture sums up Prairie Dog Town....HORRIBLE! It was raining, the wind was like a dang tornado, but Lindsey was determined that we were going to see some Prairie Dogs. I of course, had lost interest, was cold, and wanted to go back the the car. However, we did not, we went walking through this park on the search for Prairie Dogs which were obviously smarter than we were because they were in their holes, out of the elements....we did see a couple though, so I can mark that off of my list of things to see before I die.
IMG_1527 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1525 (by alhiggy08)

I will leave you with this last picture....and a teaser for tomorrow's post. (I am too tired to write anymore....) And yes, this will be hanging in our river cabin....in case you can't read it, it says....
IMG_1512 (by alhiggy08)
If you're going to act like a turd, go lay in the yard...
