Digiorno Pizza Party

The Higginbotham's were recently chosen to host a Digiorno Pizza Party at our house. They have a new product out, pizza and breadsticks combo, that is the bomb. Yes, I just said the bomb, please see 7th grade. :) Anyways, we got all these great party favors, wonderful coupons and lots of ideas to make our party a hit. We had some friends over who loved the pizza as well. Of course, everyone went home that night with some high dollar coupons for attending our rockin event!! I do have some extra coupons if any of you are interested, the pizza and breadstick combo's are usually about $8.00, and I have $4.00 off coupons, so shoot me a message if you would like one. I would highly suggest trying their new products, but the bread sticks were absolutely amazing!! Enough about that!! Here are some shots from the night!

How does your garden grow???

So, this year, I have decided to start a garden. I have been reading several books, looking at lots of websites, and overall doing a great deal of research. I am looking for an easy method that doesn't take a large amount of time and produces a lot of vegetables....lazy much??? Actually, no I am not lazy, I just want to have the least amount of things that I could screw up!! So, I broke down today and ordered the Earth Box. From everything I have read, its pretty easy, its small and shouldn't be too hard. It has great reviews, so keep your fingers crossed. I will post my progress as I go!! Have any of you tried the Earth Box? What were your results??

Fried Fish and Family Fun!

On Friday night, David and I ventured to a place we have NEVER been together. Yes folks, that is right, I have not been to McCollum's Catfish since before 2001. I actually think the last time I ate there was with my grandmother who passed away my sophmore year of high school. Anywho...McColloms Catfish and Seafood has been around as long as I can remember. It is really good, but one of those places that I never think about to eat there. To me, it is a place that the same people eat there every Friday and Saturday nights religiously. So, we took off there and had an awesome meal. It is such a cool place and really reminds me why I love living in a small town. People that you don't even know will talk to you from another booth and everyone is so nice....

Then we headed off to the campground to join the other Higginbotham's for an evening of fun...actually, I just went because there were S'Mores involved. :) Upon arrival, we discovered that Kate's blue jeans had gotten caught in the bicycle. And how many people did it take to get her out???
IMG_1355 (by alhiggy08)

Then we had some lovely stories around the campfire and I ate entirely too many S'Mores....

David got all artsy on us and took some pictures of the trees...I particularly like the ones where it looks like John is a ghost floating through the picture....

All in all it was a fun evening and we got to enjoy the beautiful weather outside! Can't wait for more good weather!!

Warm Weather Fun!

Two weekends ago, we had some decent weather, David had his first wedding of the season, so that means my single lady status begins! :) Poor David works extremely hard, and during wedding season especially, we are just two ships that pass. But that leaves lots of time for me and my hobbies. One of which is the river/anything outdoors. I took off to the Athens Home and Garden Show to learn a little bit about container gardening before I headed off to the river. I recently read this book called "Square Foot Gardening" which was really neat. It basically shows you how to grow almost a whole gardens worth of food in a 4x4 area. Container gardening is a little bit like this method as well...so I wanted to get the facts on both before I decided which method to try. I am really wanting the method that is the most fool proof....since I can kill a weed without trying. :) So the jury is still out on which version we will have for the summer. Here are some of the ladies showing off the container gardening method.

Then I headed out to the river and had some good catch up time with my neighbors out there! I can't wait for the summer!

SkipperAndGilligan (by David Higginbotham Photography)

Day's like today make me soooo happy and sooo ready to be doing the above!! I think Wilson is just as excited. If you are not in a good mood today, someone should just punch you in the face...I mean seriously...how can you not be happy on a beautiful day like today!

The Infamous Crow Hop

If you ever drive down our street on a warm day, more than likely you will see me and Wilson out there with me throwing his ball as far as I can down the street. You see, our backyard doesn't really allow him to "run" the way he needs to, so I bring him out in the street and throw the ball for him. P.S.-I am sure my neighbors love this tradition, and I really try to keep him out of their yards. Anyways, on this particular day, David came out to play with us and was teaching me how to do a crow hop and throw the ball. For those of of not familiar with this term, this is where you would catch the ball, like a fly ball or something, and in mid catch, you are already running forward to throw the ball. It looks exactly like this....

If you notice, you have to hold your mouth JUST RIGHT to be able to execute this tricky maneuver properly. Anyways, I think I am just going to stick to plain throwing because David laughed entirely too much at my crow hop skills.

Day 3 BOW

Well by day 3 I was exhausted, but so not ready to leave! We got up for breakfast and then had our last seminar before heading out. I did Turkey Talk, which taught us all about turkey hunting, tracking, calling, etc. I even can tell the difference between male and female turkey poop, which is a skill I am sure I will have to use for the rest of my life! :) My instructors were great, and we started off in the classroom for a little demonstration, supply list, watched a video, and practiced our turkey calls.

IMG_1343 (by alhiggy08)

Then we moved outside for a little turkey trailing and some hands on lessons.

IMG_1345 (by alhiggy08)

They talked a good deal about camo and how important it is that everything, guns, shoes, bottoms of your shoes, face, etc. be covered because turkeys have like 10x greater eye site than humans. In the middle of them talking to us about this, not 10 feet from me, this guy jumps out of the brush hollering, in full camo, and I proceeded to wet my pants. It scared us all to death that he was that close to us, and we didn't have a clue. Here is our masked bandit....

Last but not least was a little lunch with new friends and tons of memories to take home. :)

BOW-Day 2

Day 2 of the Becoming and Outdoors Woman Seminar, I took the BASS Class and Riflery. They were both awesome. I started out that morning with the BASS Class. We met down at the pool to practice with some lures specific for catching BASS so we could see how they moved. That was pretty neat, because some of the underwater lures I have used before, I had no idea what they looked like in the water.

Then we went out on the pontoon boat across Weiss Lake to a private pond to try out our new skills. It was a little chilly still, but we had a great time!

My second class was riflery which was so neat. We learned all about different types of rifles and then we had our own personal instructors to teach us different techniques and stuff. My instructor was really good...I ended up winning the TOP GUN award which was the best shooter in my class. We started out going head to head with each person in our class on shooting targets accurately and quickly as well. Plus you had to factor in the occasional gun jam which was quite frequent. So we did a bracket style competition and then at the end I was the winner. My instructor was so proud! Plus they get bragging rights to all the other instructors if their student wins.

The Best Weekend Ever!! (minus when I married David) :)

Where was I this weekend???? With 100 other women at the 4-H Center in Columbiana, AL learning how to become an Outdoors Woman. For all my Phi Mu girls out there, try not to turn up your noses too much please...they just might stick that way! :) If you have never heard to BOW, which I hadn't until about a month ago, you are missing out. It is the most awesome event ever! You learn EVERYTHING about the outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, crafts, etc. that you could imagine. It is a 3 day seminar and it absolutely wonderful. The classes I chose were: Intro to Fishing, BASS Class, Riflery and Talkin' Turkey. I will break down my post with pictures of each of these classes because there is so much to tell! So let's begin with Intro to Fishing.....

In this class we learned basic fishing techniques, knot tying, bait selection, etc. They started us out with our rods and some plastic fish that we had to catch. You had to throw your "bait" almost perfectly to catch the fish which was challenging but really helpful. If you look really closely, you will see the bright colored fish at the bottom of the hill in this picture...
IMG_1267 (by alhiggy08)

After a few tries, I caught mine!!
IMG_1268 (by alhiggy08)

Next we learned about fish identification which was really neat. In Alabama we have tons of species of fish that you can catch...
IMG_1271 (by alhiggy08)
Next they taught us how to clean the fish....when they asked for a volunteer to do the next one, guess who's hand shot up!
IMG_1278 (by alhiggy08)

Should have brought a ponytail holder...
IMG_1283 (by alhiggy08)

IMG_1289 (by alhiggy08)

So now I know how to clean a fish, which really isn't that hard, I had just never done it before. That night, we had activities which consisted of eating way too much and then we learned how to shoot a bow. I have never done that either and it was awesome. Stu-baby was my teacher and he was great. We first had to determine whether I was right eye or left eye dominant....
IMG_1294 (by alhiggy08)

Next came the instructions...

Shower Time!

Last weekend was super busy! On Saturday morning after pancake breakfast, I headed off to one of my dear high school friends, Amy Woodruff's, wedding shower. It was wonderful getting to catch up with all the high school girls and see what everyone is doing. I also got to see some of my former elementary school teachers which was really nice. We also have our 10 year reunion coming up in September, so that was the topic of conversation amongst our group at the shower. Anywho...enough of my rambling...here are the shots from the day!
